Fact-finding mission to the demarcation line between North and South Korea

Panmunjom, DMZ, 10 September 1983

Dr. Hans Koechler, President of the I.P.O., talking to military officers at the ceasefire demarcation line (along the 38th parallel) between North and South Korea in Panmunjom in the course of his fact-finding tour from 6 to 13 September 1983. In the background: officers standing guard in front of the barracks used for talks between officials from both sides. The ceasefire demaracation line passes through the middle of these barracks. The line is clearly visible on the ground between the barracks. The two barracks painted in light blue are under the control of the "United Nations Command," the one to the left is under the control of the DPRK.

On the basis of the President's fact-finding missions, the I.P.O. launched a number of initiatives for the peaceful reunification of Korea.
